Cookie policy

What is a cookie?

Cookies are little text files that a website stores in a folder on your device (computer, laptop, mobile or tablet) when you visit it.

Cookies are often used to help a website "remember" that a user has been to the website before. They can also be used for necessary website functions such as remembering what is in a shopping basket so that it doesn't automatically empty every time you open a new page on a website. Without cookies like these, parts of a website would break.

First and third party cookies

A cookie can be first or third party. A first party cookie is set by the website that you are visiting and all others are classed as third party cookies. The latter are often used to measure performance of a website with tools such as Google Analytics. In that case, Google would use cookies to make the analytics system work correctly to be able to tell the owner of the website how many people have visited. Some other third party cookies help to measure the performance of marketing campaigns.

Our first party cookies

We use two first party cookies. The first is called PHPSESSID and is used to help the quote request system work properly when you move through different parts of the form. The cookie only stores a randomly generated number which is temporarily used to remember you. When you close your browser this cookie is deleted. This session management cookie is necessary for the functioning of the site.

The second cookie is called 'cookieconsent_status' and records whether you have consented to the use of cookies on the website. The cookie remembers if you have consented and you will not be asked again the next time you visit the site using the same device. This cookie is classed as necessary to the running of the site.
